## Data We Collect

### Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

- **Email address** — used for authentication and password recovery

- **Username and display name** — chosen by you, visible on your profile

- **Profile picture** — optionally uploaded by you

### Gear and Trip Data

- **Gear items** — names, descriptions, weights, categories, and photos of your gear

- **Packs/trips** — trip names, gear lists, and planning data

Gear and trip data is stored to provide the core functionality of the app and is associated with your account.

### Device Permissions

The app may request the following permissions:

- **Camera** — to take photos of gear items or your profile picture. Only used when you actively choose to take a photo.

- **Storage** — to select existing photos from your device for gear items or your profile picture.

- **Internet** — required for account sync, gear data storage, and app updates.

These permissions are only used for their stated purpose and can be revoked at any time through your device settings.

### Automatically Collected Data

- **App version and build metadata** — used for debugging and to deliver over-the-air updates via Shorebird

- **Theme preference** — stored locally on your device to remember your light/dark mode choice

We do **not** collect analytics, crash reports, advertising identifiers, or location data.

## How We Store Your Data

- **Account and gear data** is stored securely using Supabase, a hosted database service. Data is protected by row-level security policies ensuring you can only access your own data.

- **Packs/trips** are stored locally on your device.

- **Preferences** (theme settings) are stored locally on your device using SharedPreferences.

- **Profile pictures and gear photos** are stored in Supabase Storage, linked to your account.

## Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

- **Supabase** (supabase.com) — authentication, database, and file storage. See [Supabase Privacy Policy](https://supabase.com/privacy).

- **Shorebird** (shorebird.dev) — over-the-air app updates for bug fixes and improvements. Shorebird checks for available updates on app launch. See [Shorebird Privacy Policy](https://shorebird.dev/privacy).

- **Mapbox** (mapbox.com) — optional location search for trip planning. Only used when you actively search for a location. See [Mapbox Privacy Policy](https://www.mapbox.com/legal/privacy).

We do not sell, share, or transfer your personal data to any other third parties.

## Data Retention

Your data is retained as long as you have an active account. If you delete your account, your profile information and gear data will be removed from our servers.

## Your Rights

You have the right to:

- **Access** your data at any time through the app

- **Update** your profile information and gear data

- **Delete** your account and associated data

- **Revoke** device permissions (camera, storage) through your device settings

## Children's Privacy

Packed is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

## Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
